Casement windows open outward and seal tighter than sliding windows, giving better air-tightness and sound insulation and less leakage around the opening. In hot, humid regions this reduces cooling loss and helps air conditioning hold its temperature; in cold, dry climates the sash seals shut to keep warmth in. Double glazing (DGU) is recommended for better sound and heat insulation. The Type 2 variant of the 35 series is suited to taller shutters and double glazing up to 20 mm.
