Casement windows open outward and seal tighter than sliding windows, giving better air-tightness and sound insulation and less leakage around the opening. In hot, humid regions this reduces cooling loss and helps air conditioning hold its temperature; in cold, dry climates the sash seals shut to keep warmth in. Double glazing (DGU) is recommended for better sound and heat insulation. The 34 series Type 3 is the compact single-glass casement.
